Cow Tailing finish (where a dry brush with dark finish is applied randomly on the surface), pin holes and distressed marks along the edge. This is an intentional part of the finish it is called "cow-tailing" it is what is referred to as a highlight element in the finish. It is was first used in the 1700's as a means of hiding saw marks in the wood on hand made furniture. This is a common technique used on 18th century furniture.
